Three runners today at two meetings, June French and Ashcott Boy both go to Plumpton for the same race the 4.30pm which is a 2m 3f Novices’ Handicap Steeple Chase. They are both in good form at home, a dead heat would be an ideal result between them and if that doesn’t happen let’s hope one of them can win. Strictly The One is our other runner of the day, he runs in the 2.10pm at Uttoxeter. He has proved a bit tricky to follow but if things happen right for him he could run into a place. Unfortunately Uttoxeter won’t be the same for me after the sad news this week that Lady Clarke passed away. Lady Clarke was a fantastic owner to train for. We had lots of good winners since I started training and our best horse together was without a doubt Midnight Chase whose highlight career for us was winning the Argento Steeple Chase at Cheltenham in January 2012. I used to meet Lady Clarke for a catch up anytime I went to Uttoxeter races as she has her own box there. It was always nice to see her and she became a great friend that was extremely supportive. There is one sure thing anyone that had anything to do with Lady Clarke is that she will have left them with happy memories and her title Lady Clarke said it all as she was a true Lady. Thankfully her son Simon and three daughters Jane, Sally and Mary love their horses and have also been very supportive of me since I started training. We won’t have that many runners during the month of September, Fingerontheswitch and Isthereadifference ran good races at Kelso during the week. Fingerontheswitch pulled a little bit too hard on his hurdle debut, he was beaten one length by a horse who had finished 2nd on his previous run but there was 26 lengths back to the 3rd horse but it was a good run and hopefully he can be winning a Novice Hurdle very soon. Isthereadifference once again ran a good solid race but after winning 2 races this season already, the Handicapper seems to have him where he wants him. I must go now as I am just off to Plumpton so I hope you have a nice Sunday whatever you are up to.
