All those empty boxes that have been steam cleaned and painted are all nearly full with exciting horses for the coming season. The horses have had a nice summer break and most of the staff have also enjoyed some time off. The horses that have just come in have been doing roadwork and will continue to do so over the next few weeks. We are very lucky at Conkwell as we have lovely quiet roads to hack around which have great hills to help build them up. Thankfully the horses that are running at the moment continue to run well as four of the last eleven runners are after winning whilst several of the others have been placed. On the 8th July at Bath we had two runners and two winners. The first to win was Strictly The One who was wearing blinkers for the first time which worked as he put his head down to win by a neck. Greek Islands was next to run and win he had been working really well at home but sometimes doesn’t perform on the track. Both horses were given great rides by Ted Durcan who rides for us again at Bath on Wednesday, where hopefully he might be able to do the same again where we run Strictly The One and Vexillum. Indian Stream went to Worcester on the 15th July, she has been an extremely consistent mare to me and was making her chasing debut on this occasion. Noel Fehily was riding her for the first time and they made the perfect match as they went on to win by 4 lengths and hopefully she can continue as she has been doing over the past few months. We have several horses entered for later in the week but as usual they are ground dependent. Everything else around the yard is fairly quiet but things are ticking along nicely.
