Thankfully it is all systems go at Conkwell Grange, the horses have all settled back in well after their break and are doing well. Every horse last week had their teeth done and the back man was also here for 3 days last week. Not only do we have a nice team of horses for the winter ahead I am lucky to have a good team of staff behind me as well. The horses that are running at the minute continue to run well Sylvan Legend won at Fontwell since the Blog was last updated, he was given a nice patient ride by Mark Quinlan for his owner Brian Derrick who was due that winner so I was extremely happy for him. Mark Quinlan went off to make it a good week for himself as he went on to ride 2 winners yesterday in Jersey for Jersey based trainer Karl Kukk. I was delighted for both men as Mark is a great team player at Conkwell and we stable our horses at Karl’s yard when we have horses running in Jersey. Last week I went to Ireland for a few days to A P McCoy’s retirement party which was hosted by Mr and Mrs J P McManus. It was fantastic to be invited and it was an unbelievable night and I suppose you could say it was the party of all parties. When I was over in Ireland I called up to see my family before going to the Horses in Training sales where we managed to get 2 more new horses so that was a very enjoyable couple of days in Ireland. There is plenty of preparations going on for the Owners’ Day, the only thing we can’t prepare is the weather so hopefully that will be kind to us to give us an enjoyable day. If you are not already an owner in the yard but would like to have a look around or join us on the Owners’ Day, please feel free to call me on my mobile. The evenings are starting to get shorter now as the winter months approach so the positive thing about that is we won’t be racing in the 9.00pm race a couple of hours away as the evening meetings in the summer can be a killer sometimes.
