What a great day on Saturday for members of the Neil Mulholland Racing Club!
Doing Fine was unlucky to be deprived of a win in the London Grand National at Sandown in 2019 when the race was declared void, but he gained great compensation on Saturday, winning the 2020 renewal of the race under a nice ride by Millie Wonnacott.
Did you know that you can share in the future ownership of Doing Fine by joining the club? Details of how to do so can be found on the racing club webpage.
Several members of the racing club were at Sandown and along with other members at home, they were absolutely thrilled with the performance, as for the second consecutive race Doing Fine raced with enthusiasm on the front-end and whilst he maybe should be on the decline at his age, he seems as good as ever!
Having led all the way, Doing Fine was headed for about half a furlong approaching the home straight, but it soon became clear that he was responding to Millie's urgings and a big jump at the second last got him back on terms before his rally continued and saw him back in front and pulling out a length lead as they got to the last where horse and jockey saw a great stride and jumped it brilliantly. That probably won him the race and he managed to hold the gap at just under a length through the last 100 yards. It was a great result for Millie who has only recently returned from injury.
A great day and racing club members will be hoping that the other club horse, The Weasel, can add to the success over the winter.
