September is here but it is not a great month for races as it probably the quietest month of the year. The racing programme is not great so it can be hard to find races for some horses. Not to worry October is only around the corner and that is when the jump season will take off and we will hopefully start to get the winter horses out on the racecourse. During September the winter horses will be starting their fast work to put the finishing touches on them. They have done a lot of slow cantering to build their muscles up and thankfully they all look great. The horses that are running at present also look great but most importantly are running fantastic .Two of our last three runners this week were winners. Indian Stream won at Southwell on Wednesday 2nd of September which was her second win over fences from three runs were she finished third on the other occasion. This was her first run over three miles as we felt she needed to step up in trip and thankfully it paid off. Vexillum made the long journey to Sedgefield on Thursday the 3rd of September a winning one. He had run well at Stratford on his previous run and I felt that he would have a great chance at Sedgefield as the ground was fast up there. He jumped and travelled well throughout the race but I think the main thing was he was given a perfectly timed ride by Noel Fehily who thankfully is playing a big role for me this year. It was a long journey up to Sedgefield for Noel for just one ride but thankfully he is a good team player and it all payed off. Since the blog was last updated Noel also won on The Bay Bandit at Sedgefield on the 27th of August where again he was seen to give a horse that doesn’t like to hit the front too soon a well- judged ride to win by half a length for the Neil Mulholland Racing Club. Lee Side Lady for The Affordable (2) Partnership was our other winner at Fontwell on the 25th of August, this was a great result for her owners as she had being showing promise in her novice hurdles and Fontwell is a local track to Stan and her other owners involved. There is a lot to like about her and hopefully she can go on and win again soon. She has an entry for Worcester on Tuesday so fingers crossed. Last Sunday the 30th of August we had our annual Owners and Friends day which went really well. We had a great turn out and the weather wasn’t too bad to us as it didn’t look that good a short while before it all really got going. The horses looked great and the staff did a fantastic job to turn them all out so well. The food was once again beautiful and a big thank you to Ed and Katie of EAT 5 STAR and all their team for doing such a good job. I went to Doncaster Sales this week on Thursday where we sold Yes You Can. I didn’t buy anything at the sales as I have a couple of lovely horses for sale in the yard at the moment. I will put those horses on the Horses For Sale page over the next few days.
