It took a while but we are back in amongst the winners. You often read in the press about a yard being in form or out of form, but it is the same horses trained in the same way. That being said, the winners can sometimes seem to come in clusters!
It was therefore great to end a run of 17 runners and 19 days between Heavey winning at Wincanton and the yard recording another winner. Several runners went close, most notably Sainte Doctor and Tango Boy who were both 2nd but it was great to finally get back into the winners’ enclosure when Malinas Island won up at Wetherby last Thursday. As ever, you wait 19 days for a winner and the next one comes 24 hours later when Maliboo won at Huntingdon!
Kevin Brogan was in the saddle for Malinas Island’s win and he is a contender to be National Hunt champion conditional jockey this season. He is riding really well right now and has now ridden Malinas Island to two wins and a 2nd place finish in his last three starts.
Sam Twiston-Davies was the rider at Huntingdon to steer Maliboo home. This was her first chase win on her 2nd start over fences and hopefully, she can build on that as we move forward.
After some real winter ground over the festive period, things are much drier at the moment. It is always tough at this time of year when you are looking for better ground for some horses and softer ground for others, but you can only keep plugging away and hopefully, we will keep up a steady flow of winners.
